ICF Level 2 Coach Training Program
Program Overview
Level 2 ICF Coach Education Program
Professional coaching develops in layers. First, coaches learn the foundations: how to establish agreements, listen beyond our assumptions, evoke awareness, remain present, and partner with clients rather than direct them.
As coaches develop toward Professional Certified Coach-level practice, greater range, discernment, presence, and professional judgment are required. We learn to listen not only to the situation being described, but to the person experiencing it.
At Lumina Legacy Institute, Level 2 is designed for this next stage. Over fifteen weeks, you will deepen your ability to coach the WHO as well as the WHAT: to hear the belief beneath the problem, remain present when the conversation becomes uncertain, and discern when to inquire, when to challenge, and when to stay with what is emerging. At the centre of it all is human connection: the capacity to meet another person with presence, curiosity, courage, and genuine partnership.
Because at Lumina, we do not believe you can separate the development of the coach from the development of the person. This is where capable coaches deepen their craft, their discernment, their human connection, and who they are becoming in the chair.

Educational Philosophy
Who Is Level 2 For?
Level 2 is for coaches who already have a foundation in coaching and are ready to deepen it. Some continue directly from Lumina Level 1. Others join after completing ICF Level 1 accredited education elsewhere, hold the ACC credential, or coach within organizations, leadership roles, consulting practices, or executive environments.
What connects them is not how long they have been coaching. It is the standard they want to develop toward. Level 2 is for the coach noticing the edges of their current capability. You may be asking technically strong questions but sensing the conversation needs something more. You may notice yourself filling silence, moving too quickly toward resolution, or realizing the presenting problem is not where the deeper work lives.
Level 2 is not a refresher. It is a developmental experience for coaches ready to examine their practice, receive meaningful feedback, and work deliberately at the edge of their capability.
What You Will Develop
Advanced coaching develops across three interconnected dimensions. Underneath all three is the heart of coaching itself: human connection.
Depth of Presence
Remain grounded when conversations become emotional, complex, or uncomfortable. Stay with silence. Notice your own reactions without letting them drive the conversation and distinguish between what the client needs and what you feel compelled to do.
Depth of Perception
Listen beyond the story. Notice patterns in language, emotion, behaviour, meaning, and identity. Distinguish observation from interpretation, and the presenting situation from what may be occurring underneath it.
Depth of Partnership
Protect client agency. Return insight to the client rather than becoming attached to your interpretation, work with resistance without pushing against it, and challenge without taking authority away.
As your capability grows, you do not become more central to the coaching. You become more skillful at keeping the client at the centre.
A Fifteen-Week Developmental Journey
Level 2 unfolds across four phases, each expanding your capacity to work with greater depth, complexity, and fluency. The program combines live instruction, observed coaching, mentor coaching, deliberate practice, and faculty assessment.
Phase One | The Coach
Who you are becoming as a coach.
Level 2 begins with you. During a three-day in-person immersion in Oakville, Ontario, we turn the lens inward. You will examine the beliefs, identity, assumptions, patterns, and interference you bring not only to your coaching, but to your leadership and life. You will calibrate the Lumina Coaching Console™, establish your Individual Learning Plan, and build the peer relationships that support your development throughout the program. Because the places we are unwilling to explore in ourselves can become the places we struggle to accompany a client.
Phase Two | The Client
Listening for and partnering with the whole person.
Deepen your ability to listen beyond circumstance and behaviour into meaning, belief, identity, emotion, and possibility. Explore transformative inquiry, limiting beliefs, identity and self-concept, client agency, and the capacity to stay with what is emerging rather than moving prematurely toward resolution.
Phase Three | The Leadership Lens
Coaching when the context becomes more complex.
Explore executive and leadership coaching, stakeholder complexity, coaching across difference, courageous conversations, ethical boundaries, and the responsibility of the coach when individual development sits within a larger system.
The objective is not to become the expert on the client’s organization. It is to become more capable of coaching the human being operating within it.
Phase Four | Integration
Developing greater fluency, consistency, and readiness.
Bring the work together through increasingly sophisticated coaching practice. Observed coaching is calibrated against PCC-level standards, helping you identify demonstrated capability and remaining developmental edges.
By this stage, you are learning to listen, discern, and respond.
The Lumina Methodology at Level 2
The frameworks introduced in Level 1 do not disappear at Level 2. Your relationship with them changes. At Level 1 you learn to understand and apply them. At Level 2 you begin to internalize them.
ILLUMIN8™
Deepens from principles you consciously apply into a way of thinking and being that informs how you coach.
Clarity Compass™
Moves beyond initial exploration of values, vision, identity, and action into deeper inquiry around meaning, alignment, belief, and self-concept.
MAPS™
Recedes from a visible structure into an intuitive rhythm. The coach illuminates the terrain so the client can see, choose, and own their next step.
Lumina Coaching Console™
Introduced at Level 2, the Console provides a developmental language for coaching fluency.
Some conversations require more space, more challenge, more warmth, more silence. And sometimes the most sophisticated choice available to the coach is restraint. The goal is not maximum on every fader. It is the right level, in the right moment, for the person in front of you.
Beyond the Coaching Conversation. Becoming a coach is only part of the work.
At Lumina, professional coach development extends beyond what happens inside a coaching session. You are also developing the person who leads the practice, builds relationships, communicates the value of the work, and creates opportunities to serve.
Throughout Level 2, we create space for the business and profession of coaching: positioning, marketing, relationship-building, ethical business development, and the practical realities of building a coaching practice or bringing coaching more intentionally into your existing leadership and professional work.
Not every Lumina student wants to build a coaching business. But every student will leave with greater clarity about how they want coaching to live in their life, leadership, and work.
Because becoming a professional coach is not only about developing the capability to coach. It is also about developing the capacity to build something meaningful with it.
Your Development Toward PCC
Level 2 is designed to develop your coaching toward PCC-level practice while contributing to the education and mentor coaching requirements of your credentialing journey.
Coach Education
Lumina Level 1 provides 75 hours of ICF accredited coach education. Level 2 provides an additional 52 hours, creating 127 hours of coach-specific education across the complete Lumina pathway.
Mentor Coaching
Students completing both Lumina Level 1 and Level 2 receive 13 hours of mentor coaching across the pathway. Students entering from another provider receive three individual hours, with previous mentor coaching reviewed before enrollment and additional hours arranged when required.
Coaching Experience
ICF requires PCC applicants to document at least 500 hours of coaching experience with at least 25 clients following the start of coach-specific education. At least 450 hours must be paid, with at least 50 occurring within the 18 months preceding the credential application.
The Professional Certified Coach credential is awarded solely by the International Coaching Federation. Completion of coach education does not itself guarantee an ICF credential.
Learn From Coaches Who Continue to Practise
The quality of professional education is shaped by the quality of its faculty. At Lumina, students learn from ICF credentialed educators who continue to contribute to the profession through active coaching, leadership, mentor coaching, organizational consulting, and executive education.
And importantly, they coach in front of you. You will observe advanced coaching, examine what occurred, question the choices the coach made, and connect those moments directly to professional coaching standards.
Carefully selected guest experts broaden the experience through expertise in psychology, leadership, organizational development, communication, entrepreneurship, and human performance.
A Learning Community Built for Development
Coaching is fundamentally relational. Professional education should be too. Each Level 2 cohort is intentionally limited to 25 students, creating an environment where faculty know your coaching, understand your development, and can provide meaningful feedback throughout the program.
You will practise. Observe. Be observed. Receive feedback. Reflect. And return to the work with another opportunity to develop. The cohort becomes a place to practise the same presence, honesty, courage, and human connection we ask you to cultivate with clients.
Graduation is not the conclusion of the community. Level 2 graduates become part of the Lumina Alumni Network and Community of Practice, where continuing education, mentorship, and professional dialogue continue beyond the classroom.

Ready to Deepen Your Practice?
You already know how to coach. Level 2 asks a deeper question: who are you becoming as you deepen the work? You will develop greater depth, presence, discernment, and range as a coach, while examining your own beliefs, patterns, leadership, and edges.
Because coaching is about human connection, the quality of the work is inseparable from the person bringing themselves to it. We believe the coach is part of the instrument, so this work develops more than your coaching.
It develops you. As a coach. As a leader. As a human being. And it helps you become clearer about how you want to bring your coaching into your work, your business, and the world.
Deepen your coaching. Deepen your leadership. Deepen who you are becoming.
